Swoff needed to come clean on his proposal. Smelled like a back door deal
for ND and for that reason I spoke out against it at the time. [ Told you I don't trust Swofford : ) ]
I could see the ACC telling ND it could play in its champ game if it was ranked higher than one of its division champs, or play less than a full conf schedule or some nonsense like that.
I'm a huge fan of Andy Bitter's idea (June 10, 2013 article) which is as follows:
"Eliminate the divisions. Have every team play three fixed rivals per year. Play five more games against non-fixed opponents in a given year, then the other five the next, allowing for each team to play everybody in the league at least once on the road and at home in a four-year cycle. Then have the teams with the best two records play in the ACC championship game."
Then if the conference goes to 16, it can do the rotating pods deal...which is similar, i.e., 3 fixed rivals.
If the ACC puts that out there, it would be difficult to vote that down...especially if the networks support it (which they would...more better games).
